MSF crisis responses explained

An ambulance brought an 84-year-old woman with a temperature of 37.3, low blood pressure and bruises on her face to the emergency room of the hospital supported by the MSF medical team. When asked what was bothering her and what her complaints were, the woman was unable to answer on her own. She had no relatives with her. She was brought from an elderly residential home located near the hospital. “We recommend admitting this woman to the hospital. Since she cannot voice her complaints herself, additional tests need to be done to determine the cause,” explains Dr. Hanna. "Most often, people with cardiovascular diseases and chronic conditions come to this hospital. There are also frequent cases where heart failure has progressed to the point of developing pulmonary oedema. Depending on the season, we see an increase in acute infectious diseases, pneumonia, and lung inflammation. Chronic neurological diseases are also common throughout the region. In addition, there are domestic injuries and war-related injuries, as many villages along the coast and estuary are under fire." The MSF medical team has been supporting this hospital in Mykolaiv region since April 2025. This medical facility has continued to operate, despite being desperately under-staffed, and provide assistance in the region, while many health facilities have closed and large numbers of qualified doctors have left for safer regions.
