Global Health Review - 07 August 2020
This week, MSF co-authors a study in Conflict and Health evaluating the morbidity and mortality of newborns admitted into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Al-Gomhoury Hospital Hajjah, Yemen. There was a disproportionate burden of neonatal morbidity and mortality in this context, with the main morbidity being prematurity and its complications, compounded by significant geographical barriers that could be overcome by using a community-based model of care.
MSF authors a letter in IJTLD describing how MSF-supported TB services in Mumbai, India, have adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and sets out the challenges faced and proposed solutions. Another MSF-authored letter in Journal of Palliative Care discusses the results of a study evaluating the knowledge, attitudes and practices of palliative healthcare providers in Bihar, India, and draws attention to the lack of awareness around palliative care and limited service provision in Bihar.
Finally, MSF contributes to a study in Nature Communications evaluating the possible interference between an Ebola vaccine and post-exposure antibody treatment in non-human primates. There was evidence of improved survival in vaccinated animals that received the antibody treatment following exposure to the Ebola virus, compared to those receiving either vaccination or antibody therapy alone, highlighting the potential of a combined approach to therapy in humans.
We’re always looking for ways to improve the Global Health Review and would love to hear your thoughts. We’ve prepared a quick survey that will only take a minute to complete, and will help make sure that the Global Health Review is beneficial to all our subscribers.
