The Sahel region of Africa is once again in the grip of a serious nutritional crisis. People living on this strip of land which covers parts of countries including Niger, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Chad, routinely experience malnutrition. Conditions this year have been particularly severe: approximately 10 million people are expected to suffer from food insecurity there. Particularly hard hit is Chad, where erratic rainfall for the past few years, failed harvests, soaring food prices and an early depletion of food stocks has left people vulnerable to malnutrition. MSF is currently running emergency nutrition projects in affected areas.
