MSF supplies Mosul hospitals after violent attacks

Date Published: 17/07/2008 04:35

Yesterday there were six deadly attacks in the city of Mosul, in northern Iraq; four car bombs and two suicide attacks. MSF continues to provide medical supplies to city hospitals that are receiving large numbers of wounded people. Around 90 blast victims were admitted to one of the hospitals supported by MSF.

As a response to yesterday's blasts, MSF today sent medical supplies including anesthesia supplies, dressings, and medication to Mosul hospitals from Amman. MSF contacts in Mosul are assessing further needs.

While the dangerous security situation does not allow MSF teams to work directly in Iraq's conflict zones, the organisation has established a presence in Amman, Jordan, as well as in the Kurdish provinces in northern Iraq. From there, MSF is supporting hospitals in the war zones of northern and central Iraq with medical materials and staff training.
