Justgiving is a website that allows you to set up personal fundraising pages to collect donations for MSF.
You can use these pages to collect donations for MSF in many different ways, limited only by your imagination. For example they are most often used for sponsored events such as marathons or bicycle rides but can also be used as a means of collecting donations that are not sponsorship
It is really simple to set up a Justgiving page, even if you only have basic computing skills, and it can make fundraising for MSF very simple and hassle free. It will take about five minutes to register and create a basic page. You can then personalise your page as much as you want with photos, video and text. Have a look at the examples on the right of this page to see what other people have done to their pages.
To set up a page visit www.justgiving.com/msfraisemoney and click on 'Create Your Page'. Then just follow the instructions on the screen. If you have any problems you can email help@justgiving.net.
People can donate to MSF via your page with any major credit or debit card. They can also leave messages on your page to accompany their donation. Just giving pays all money received for MSF every week which means the money reaches us more quickly than if your sponsors were to write cheques or pay cash. Justgiving also automatically reclaim the Gift Aid on all eligible donations. There is a transaction fee of 5% on all donations made through Justgiving pages and you can read more about this here.
Five tips for successful fundraising with a Justgiving page:
1. Personalise your message
The best fundraising pages tell a really good story. Let people know why you’re going to the trouble of raising money, and they’re much more likely to take the time to donate. Explain why you have chosen to support MSF, some of your sponsors may not have heard of us so you need to tell them why you are going to the effort of raising funds for us.
2. Add photos and video
A personal photo makes your page much more engaging. You can also add Youtube Videos that, along with photos will help to bring your page to life. The more interesting, compelling and imaginative the more likely your supporters are to send your page on to their friends. If you want to add an MSF video click here to see all the videos that we have on YouTube.
3. Tell everyone about your page
Before you email your entire address book, ask your closest friends and family to donate first. An empty page can be a bit intimidating, so having a couple of donations on the page should encourage other sponsors. People tend to match the amounts already listed on the page, so if they’re generous ones, all the better!
Email your other contacts in groups (e.g. colleagues, running club, friends overseas, etc) personalising your message each time.
4 - Put a link in your email signature
Add your page’s web address, or one of Justgiving's 'sponsor me' badges, to your email signature. That way, every email you send raises awareness of your fundraising and attracts more donations.
5 - Get a Widget or Badge
You can add an animated Justgiving Widget to your website, Blog, Facebook or MySpace page to advertise your page. Click here for more information.
