VIDEO: A new model for HIV treatment in Mozambique

Scaling-up antiretroviral treatment in countries with a high AIDS burden and human resource shortages: how can health systems react to such challenges? Inspired by the article “Experts patients and AIDS care” by Wim Van Damme, an MSF team in Mozambique's rural Tete province launched a pilot project that addresses this crucial question. Their answer: an innovative model of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) delivery built around a community-based approach. The model, based on the concept of self-management, may have the potential to make the scale-up of ART a reality in Mozambique and other Southern African countries.
